Club Passes Resolution To Get Solar Back on the White House!

At Saturday’s club meeting a resolution, circulated originally by the Fallbrook Democratic Club, was presented to the membership for approval.  The resolution passed unanimously. The resolution reads:

“We invite all the Democratic Clubs of San Diego County to formally endorse this proposal to install solar panels back on the White House.

Whereas Democratic President Jimmy Carter installed 32 solar panels on the presidential mansion in 1979 (amid the Arab oil embargo, which had caused a national energy crisis) an action which proved both insightful and popular; http ://usgovinfo .about. com!od/thepresidentandcabinet/tplHistory-of-White- House-Solar-Panels.htm

Whereas Republican President Ronald Reagan removed the panels in 1981, at the start of his administration, a decision that betrayed a lack of vision;

Whereas solar energy now accounts for more new energy coming online than any other source; and renewable energy provides 19% of electricity generation worldwide; and at least 30 nations around the world already have renewable energy contributing more than 20% of energy supply; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy

Whereas the oil-sands are far less cost-effective and far more polluting;

Whereas the solar panels on the White House will be a miniscule addition to the national energy infrastructure, they will be a powerful environmental statement from this administration commitment to alternative energy sources, a cleaner environment, and a healthier environment for the Planet;

We the undersigned Democratic Clubs of San Diego County strongly urge the President to proceed immediately with installation of new, state of the art solar panels manufactured in the United States.”

We applaud the Fallbrook Club for circulating this resolution, we thank the members who passed it and now we hope that President Obama will take notice and take action as a result!
