Saturday, December 13th, 65 club members attended the annual Lake San Marcos Democratic Club Holiday Luncheon. The new element this year was that it was held outside the Lakes at Fratelli’s in Restaurant Row in San Marcos. The food was delicious and the company was outstanding. The best part was honoring outgoing club President Mary Borevitz for her five years of leadership, significantly growing our club during her tenure.
Mary was honored by the Executive Board and was given a number of memorable gifts including a photo memory book of her time as President, and a bag of goodies that included wine, a hand knitted afghan for her recently arrived grandchild, several books and gift cards all geared towards activities she can enjoy in her newly gained free time. Even the bag itself was very special as it was made of remnants from the security fence surrounding the World Trade Center after the 9-11 tragedy.
San Diego County Democratic Party Chair Francine Busby also attended. She gave an overview of the election successes in the County this past November. Even though the overall election results were not great for Democrats nationwide, San Diego Democrats won 62% of their endorsed races and took Democratic majorities on key city councils, including Oceanside, Encinitas, Del Mar and Solana Beach.
The club members and Executive Board wish to thank Mary for her five years of leadership and friendship too. She will remain active with the club and play the role of advisor to the new President who will be elected at the January meeting.
