For our February 13th meeting, we hosted Dr. Cody Petterson, president of the Democrats for Environmental Action and senior advisor to San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer. The county’s contract with San Diego Gas and Electric is coming up for renewal, and one alternative to the current million-dollar-per-day contract is for the county and its incorporated cities to buy the infrastructure and manage it as a public utility, buying electrical power on the open market. The guaranteed profit built into contracts with for-profit entities ads unnecessary cost and leaves us susceptible to corporate decisions that are not always in our best interest. The attendees had plenty of questions and a lively discussion followed his presentation.
