YOUR CHANCE TO STAND UP FOR AND BE HEARD REGARDING A FAIR AND EQUITABLE SAN DIEGO COUNTY BUDGET

INVEST IN SAN DIEGO FAMILIES (ISDF) COALITION OFFERS COUNTY BUDGET ACTION TRAINING

The County Board of Supervisors (BOS) is responsible for a lot of important things including our COVID-19 response, public health, education, etc.  The Invest in San Diego Families (ISDF) Coalition is made up of community organizations and labor with the intention to create a county budget that provides equitable resources for all of our communities.
Together, we’re truly changing the County of San Diego.  So far in 2021, through community-driven solutions and partnerships with the County Board of Supervisors, we’ve won:

Free phone calls for incarcerated San Diegans
Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement
 Immigrant Legal Defense Fund
Emergency Eviction Ban & Rent Moratorium

It doesn’t stop here.  The County of San Diego recently released their $7 billion proposed budget.  We now have the opportunity to advocate for a budget that is for the people and by the people.

Join us for ISDF‘s County Budget Action Training Series to learn about the County budget process and how you can get involved in the movement to reclaim the County budget.  Closed captioning and Spanish language interpretation will be provided.

San Marcos Democratic Club is asking you to train, learn, engage, and work to create an equitable and fair budget.  To SMDC members who indicated an interest in Legislation and Political Action, these events fit that interest.

Up-coming events:

1) ISDF Budget Advocacy Training
    Thursday, June 3 at 5:30 – 7:30 pm
     RSVP required:https://bit.ly/isdf_budget_training2
Topics to be covered:

  • How can we advocate for a budget that uplifts San Diego and its residents?
  • Reviewing the status of our ISDF county budget demands.
  • Learn how to effectively advocate.
  • Create actions to pressure our Board of Supervisors

This is a great opportunity to meet ISDF coalition partners, learn about what we have been pushing at the county, and share space with community. Also, the beautiful thing about this training is that we are going to provide exercises/support to those who attend so they can effectively uplift their story and create a statement in support of our county budget demands.

Tuesday, June 8th at 9am.

This BOS meeting will focus on allocating the funds provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.  It is a great opportunity to speak in support of our community demands including Hazard Pay for all county workers, tenant counseling and legal services, and cash aid for immigrant families.  More information will be sent out closer to June 8.

3) ISDF Lobby Day
Thursday, June 10 at 10am

This is an opportunity for community members who attended the ISDF training to use their newly acquired skills to virtually lobby our BOS.  We need community members to attend so they can speak truth to power and ensure that our county budget reflects the needs of San Diegans.  More information we be sent out closer to the date

4) Board of Supervisors Evening Meeting
Wednesday, June 16th at 6pm.

This BOS meeting will be the last opportunity to publicly speak in support of all our community demands.  We want to maintain public pressure to ensure that the final budget is reflective of our community needs. Again, more information will be sent out closer to the date.
