DRAFT 2021 AIR TOXICS “HOT SPOTS”

PROGRAM REPORT

Join the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (District) for a public meeting to discuss the 2021 draft Air Toxics “Hot Spots” Program Report.

DATE:                                      Wednesday, May 11, 2022

TIME:                                       5:00 p.m.

WHERE: Virtual

Under the California Air Toxic Hot Spots Program, the District evaluates public health risks from toxic air contaminants emitted by stationary sources (i.e., factories or manufacturing plants, power plants, shipyards, landfills, rock or asphalt plants, and other industrial, commercial and governmental operations). Toxic air contaminants are chemicals in the form of gases, liquids, or particles that are emitted into the atmosphere and, when individuals are exposed to them, may cause adverse health effects. Adverse health effects can range from symptoms such as minor eye or throat irritation, shortness of breath or headaches that go away once a person is no longer exposed to the toxic air contaminants, to more permanent and serious conditions such as cancer, birth defects, or damage to the lungs, nerves, liver, heart, or other organs.

This public meeting will consist of an overview of the “Hot Spots” program, potential health risks from stationary sources, and public notification and risk reductions requirements implemented in 2021.

We encourage you to review the Draft 2021 California Air Toxics Hot Spots Annual Report. To learn more about the “Hot Spots” Program, please visit, sdapcd.org/permits/toxics-emissions/hot-spots.
