Immigration at the Border presentation by Cipriano Vargas and Lillian Serrano May 13, 2023 SMDems meeting

Cipriano Vargas is the Manager of Community Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs for County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer. A former Community Organizer, Cipriano is well known in the community for his work with Youth Workforce, immigration, education, and grant funding through working with other governmental organizations. His efforts play a critical role in ensuring that the San Diego County budget reflects the needs of the entire community. He also serves as a board member for the Vista Unified School District, and immediate Past President of the CSU San Marcos Alumni Council.

Lillian Serrano serves as Director of the Southern Border Communities Coalition. She was born and raised in the Tijuana-San Diego border region. She has over a decade of experience working in community education, human rights advocacy, and social justice work. Her personal and professional expertise as afronteriza have allowed her to build and maintain strong ties in North San Diego County with community members impacted by immigration policies and farmworker families. Her professional experience includes serving as Chair of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium, Coordinator of Alianza Comunitaria and Co-Director of Universidad Popular.

The guest speakers, Cipriano Vargas and Lillian Serrano, come with both personal and professional experience on this topic and will be sharing stories as well as programs and solutions to help our members understand the wide scope surrounding immigration in San Diego County and our area.
