IT'S THE EVENT OF THE SUMMER!!
JOIN OUR NEXT MEETING JULY 9, 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM
IN PERSON AT MARY Y. CONNORS HALL IN WALNUT GROVE PARK,
1952 SYCAMORE DR. SAN MARCOS, 92069

The San Marcos Democrats and Community Action Group welcome members and friends to attend an informative, in-person, open-house style meeting to learn more about a wide variety of club activities, meet candidates and spend time with old and new friends, enjoying snacks in a beautiful outdoor setting. The key ingredient to any successful club is the vitality of the membership, and we want our members to be aware of and support the year-round efforts and contributions of this organization.

Walnut Grove Park has plenty of up-close parking and the Connors Hall is air-conditioned so members can stay cool while meeting representatives from the GO Team, Black Lives Matter/Social Justice Reading Group, # Team Justice, Universidad Popular, members of the Sustainability Sub-Committee, and the Community Action Group.

Our leadership team will greet you as you enter the building where you will see tables and displays will be set up for you to speak in person with members of the smaller groups.

  • Find out which books the Social Justice Group is reading and recommend.
  • Learn about the Citizenship Classes and vaccine clinics being conducted by Universidad.
  • Check out information about water concerns and best practices in San Marcos and get resources on implementing more environmentally sustainable (often easy and inexpensive) practices in your home right away.
  • Have questions about the Edco Recycling Program? We may have answers for you!!
  • The Community Action Group will explain how our club members are helping in the local schools throughout the year, as well as Casa de Amparo and Boy and Girls Club.
  • Meet Jean-Huy Tran who will be on hand to discuss # Team Justice.
  • Take a garden group volunteer led tour of the Community Garden that provides much needed fresh vegetables to food insecure families in our community.
  • Bring an unexpired non-perishable food item to add to the monthly donation and distribution in coordination with Universidad Popular. All donations gladly accepted, but most jasmine or basmati rice, canned tuna, chicken, peanut butter, oil, flour, masa, and dried beans

In the last year, San Marcos Dems endorsed several Democratic candidates and many of them will be in attendance on July 9th including club members Randy Walton, Jay Petrek, and Tiffany Boyd-Hodgson. Also invited are Scott Peters, Joseph Rocha, Brian Maienshein and Barbara Bry.

We also know that our members missed the regular interaction with one another, and this event is all about reconnecting and conversations. Plans are in place to reinstate regular in-person meetings and the first “coffee and conversations” gathering at the end of May was well attended with lots of excitement in the air!

Hopefully, this is enough information to entice our members to attend, even before the mention of treats! But what’s a meeting without something good to munch on while enjoying the company of others? Summer calls for ice cream treats, summer fruits, and lemonade – so be prepared to stimulate all your senses at the Summer Social and Club Showcase on July 9th. Bring a like-minded friend and carpool or call a fellow club member you haven’t seen in a while and agree to meet at this event.

For questions or more information about the event, contact Tanis Brown, 760-317-0748 (cell or text) or tanisbrown8448@gmail.com, Kathy Steel, 760-889-0207 or steel.kathleen@gmail.com, or Barbara Sulier, 818-304-4246 or vp@sanmarcosdems.org
