There are many opportunities to engage with your community, your county, your state, and more. From working on political campaigns to donating to neighbors in need to helping clean local trails to serving on any of a number of local committees, we hope to keep you informed about the various ways you can involve yourself.

MONTHLY EVENTS

OPPORTUNITY SHOP RETAIL
Location: 442 W. Mission Rd., San Marcos
Description: Your local place to make donations of your used treasures so you can find places for your new treasures. This resale shop is run by SMUSD students through the adult transition program. Students help with cleaning, organizing, and selling the items. All proceeds benefit the students’ recreation program. For more information contact: Tanis Brown: tanis@sanmarcosdems.org

FOOD FOR UNIVERSIDAD POPULAR

Date/Time:     Second Saturday of the Month – 1 pm – at SMDC Meeting
Description: Each month, SMDC and Universidad Popular provide bags of food and personal care items to families in San Marcos who are food insecure. Food donations are accepted all month, but if you have perishables, you need to drop them off on this day. SAN MARCOS DEMOCRATS COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP (CAG)

  • Date/Time:     First Monday of each month – 4:30 p.m.
  • Location: Home of Tanis Brown
  • Description: Each month the Community Action Group meets to discuss and plan these and other Volunteer Opportunities and Events. Be a part of CAG and serve the San Marcos Community. The meeting will be in person, held outdoors and is a potluck. Bring a dish to share!!

SAN MARCOS DEMOCRATS RACIAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE GROUP (RSJG)

  • Date/Time:     First Wednesday of each month – 4:45 p.m.
  • Location: ZOOM
  • Description: Each month the Racial and Social Justice Group meets to hear speakers, discuss and learn current topics related to race and society. Their topics have ranged from how to converse with others who are polar opposites to the history of and current state of abortion in this nation.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

THE FOUNDATION FOR SENIOR WELLBEING (FFSW) is a local non-profit organization that has resources and programs for seniors and their families living in North San Diego County. It is located right here in San Marcos at 131 Richmar Avenue, San Marcos, CA 92069.

FFSW’S THE FRIENDSHIP TREE connects volunteers with seniors the old fashion way – through weekly phone calls which allow participants to share life experiences and reminisce, and hopefully create some new friendships along the way.
